In the period of 20 – 23 June, 2016, in the town Sozopol, Bulgarian Naval Base “Atia” was held International Workshop „Joint Underwater Mine Warfare Workshop“. The Workshop was organized by the Institute of Metal Science, Equipment and Technologies with Hydroaerodynamics Centre – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Navy of the Republic of Bulgaria and Naval Surface Warfare Center, Florida.
The Workshop was opened by the Commander of the Navy Rear Admiral Mitko Petev. Welcome speeches were delivered by Academician Stefan Vodenitcharov, President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Mr. Christopher Weller, manager of Department in Naval Surface Warfare Center, Florida.
During the event were presented reports on the projects for modernization of the NAVY, as well as methods to combat threats of sea mines. Academician Vodenicharov presented the activities of the Institute of Metal Science, Equipment and Technologies with Hydroaerodynamics Centre (IMSETHC – BAS) in the field of security and defense, and representatives of the Institute informed the participants about the developed and produced high-tech products and systems. Special interest caused the report „Searching system on the hull of large vessels “ARMUS”“.
The guests from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Florida presented extremely interesting reports on the activities of the Centre.
In front of the hall for the Workshop was organized exhibition of products of IMSETHC – BAS, some of which have no analogue in the world.
The Workshop ended with a thorough discussion on the reports and had expressed the conviction of the participants for the implementation of possible joint projects.
